I gotta admit, when it comes to supporting Linux, no company does more in regards to printers than HP.

I personally run an HP Officejet Pro multi printer/scanner/copier for my business on a wireless network at my house. it is also capable of bluetooth networking as well, though I don't use it. That is more for sending pics from smart phones and PDA's, tablets, etc straight to the printer.

At the school we run a combination of HP 1050's and 2205 laser wired connection network printers. We just started switching to the 2205's because of their ability to set static IP addresses for the printers. The 1050's are DHCP only and when the power blinks or powers trips get turned of as frequently as at this school, re-setting PC's after new IP addresses are assigned to the printers from the router. Holy Moly...

finally, after I don't know how long, scanning on Linux has gotten to a point of user friendly.

I just did an update on a PCLOS computer, all up to date now (I was only a week from my last full update).

In one of the more recent updates, the HPlip app was improved/fixed to associate the scanner to xsane.

I last tried this about 6 months ago to no avail, on PCLOS, and opensuse computers.

Slowly but surely device interoperability improves.
